Along with Google, Meta and Microsoft are also looking to make a splash in the metaverse. AR and VR environments and games do exist nowadays, but these companies are looking to make the metaverse a mainstream thing. We’re all familiar with those videos showing people holding full meetings while sitting at home with a headset on.

Google is looking to buy Raxium LEDs

Those virtual meetings might be that much closer if this deal goes through. According to The Information, people close to the matter are speaking out about this. Google is looking to buy the microLED startup Raxium. This company makes the MicroLED lights that backlight AR and VR displays. Google has already started working on an AR operating system, so what’s next is getting some hardware to run it. It’s just tough to say what this operating system will offer or when we’ll see it in action. The fact that Google is looking for companies to build a headset means that progress is being made, but it’ll still be a while. Right now, we don’t know just how much Google will potentially spend on Raxium, but according to the report, the company is valued at around $1 billion. While that’s a lot of money, it’s chump change for Google.
