The two executives in question are HONOR’s Europe CEO, Tony Ran, and HONOR’s Western Europe CMO, Clement Wong. They were asked quite a few questions by GSM Arena, and you can check out the full interview, but we’ll share the most important bits only.
HONOR executives talked about foldable and compact smartphones, amongst other things
When asked about a timeline for the upcoming foldable, the two CEOs were not exactly precise. All they said is that the next foldable will launch in China first, and that the global launch will follow. That being said, HONOR did confirm during its event in Berlin, that the next foldable from the company will launch globally. It was confirmed that it’s coming in the first quarter of next year. HONOR’s execs were also asked about compact smartphones. That’s not something they have in their portfolio at the moment, at least not any newer models. They said that consumers love large displays, and it will likely stay that way in the foreseeable future. They did say, however, that the “advancements in structural engineering over the past years have allowed us to fit larger screens into a smaller device footprint and we will continue to serve our customers and their needs”. So, much like most smartphone OEMs out there, HONOR intends to follow market demands. Quite a few people probably want smaller devices, but the vast majority of them want larger phones, so… there you have it. It would be nice to see more companies release truly compelling compact phones, like the ASUS ZenFone 9, but that won’t happen anytime soon, it seems. Well, at least HONOR won’t do it.
The lack of OIS on the HONOR 70 was also discussed, and more
The HONOR 70 ships without OIS. HONOR execs said that there were space constraints inside the phone. They also believe that the Sony IMX800 works great with EIS. That is actually true, based on our testing. The HONOR 70 has a really compelling camera. HONOR is looking to innovate most in the camera department, along with the design itself. They also mentioned Magic OS as their really important point of focus, and its integration with the company’s hardware. The two company employees also discussed retail store plans in Europe, the transition to being an independent company following their separation from Huawei, and much more.
