CEO Mike Sievert shared some of the good news with the investors. “T-Mobile had our strongest year ever. We didn’t just meet the bold goals we set for 2021 around customer growth, profitability, merger synergies and network buildout – we crushed all of them,” Sievert said (via Phone Arena). “Our industry-leading year-end results – adding 1.2 million postpaid accounts and 5.5 million postpaid customers, extending Ultra Capacity 5G to 210 million people – show that the Un-carrier is experiencing the greatest growth momentum in wireless. And we’re poised to sustain that position into 2022 and beyond as we continue to execute on our winning playbook and consistently make investments that have enabled our success. With plenty of room to run, we’re in the best-ever position to continue delivering.” The carrier added 224,000 High-Speed Internet net customers in Q4 2021 and 546,000 throughout 2021. This means that a large part of High-Speed Internet’s growth came in the fourth quarter of 2021. T-Mobile led the industry with 1.8 million postpaid net customer additions in the three months between October to December. Incidentally, this also happens to be the best fourth-quarter results for the carrier in its history.
Prepaid net customers were marginally down in Q4 2021
The carrier further saw postpaid phone net customer additions of 844,000 in the last quarter of 2021. Meanwhile, it added 2.9 million throughout the year, signifying a 32% increase year-over-year. As for prepaid, T-Mobile added 49,000 net customers during the quarter, down from 66,000 in Q3. This is a significant reduction from the 84,000 prepaid net customer additions in Q4 2020. On a positive note, prepaid net customer additions rose to 342,000 compared to 145,000 in 2020. Some updates are also available on the carrier’s 5G offerings. T-Mobile said its Extended Range 5G, which leverages the low-band 600 MHz spectrum, currently covers up to 94% of the American population. On the other hand, its Ultra Capacity 5G network is reportedly accessible to 210 million people across the U.S. T-Mobile reported $14.6 billion in revenues during the fourth quarter of last year. This is a 1.6% sequential increase from Q3. Throughout 2021, the carrier brought in $58.40 billion in revenues, which is a 15.8% gain compared to the previous year.
